A Good Example of Stewardship and Sustainable Agriculture

Michael Ableman has farmed Fairview Gardens for over 22 years in Goleta, California. The crops planted on his 12 acres provide food for over 500 families. But it has not been an easy life; Ableman has had to fight to keep the sprawl of Goleta from taking over the farm. In order to demonstrate the value of the farm, Ableman and his staff created community outreach programs so that his urban neighbors could make a connection to the land and the food grown on it. This link will give you an idea of the encroachment that Ableman faces.
